Lead a walk
Please give something back to the group by leading a walk or organising a social. Here’s how to get it on the CWW calendar.
- Check the calendar to find a suitable date, noting what else is happening on adjacent days.
- Fill out our online Lead a Walk form. Or why not have a go at putting your walk directly onto the Ramblers Walks Manager? Log on here with the user name and password for your Ramblers website account. Hit ‘Create’, then ‘Add a walk’. For help, read this comprehensive guide. - If you need more time to finalise the details, email leadawalk@chilternsww.co.uk to bag the date. Mention the date, location, approximate distance and start time.
- Do a recce.
- Read one of these generic risk assessments for your grade of walk: easy, leisurely / moderate, strenuous / technical. We no longer need to fill out a form and keep it for three years, but please make a personal note of any risks particular to your walk, and also make sure to read the section on red kites.
- If you’re planning to lead a walk for the first time, you’ll need to be registered as a volunteer so you can complete the Ramblers online training. To get started, please email leadawalk@chilternsww.co.uk.
Dip into our exclusive walks library
Leading a walk for CWW has never been easier! We’ve assembled a library of some of our leaders’ routes, complete with a map, description and a gpx file to download. You’ll still need to do a recce and read a risk assessment.
For more inspiration, have a browse through the Chiltern Society’s collection of over 150 free downloadable walking route leaflets, plus another 50 routes on Fancy Free Walks.
